Piper Spit Boardwalk

Burnaby Lake Regional Park together with the three Burnaby Rotary Clubs and Terasen Pipelines, the Pacific Parklands Foundation forged a partnership with the GVRD to replace an existing boardwalk, making the area wheelchair accessible.  This was an initiative of the volunteers of the Burnaby Lake Park Association and together with the generosity of the local Rotarians and Terasen Pipelines Inc., this area rich in habitat for birds and waterfowl is now easily accessible for all.

From the vantage point on the boardwalk, two active beaver lodges can be observed, along with an eagles nest and any waterfowl in the lake.  Eagle Creek, which flows nearby, is fish-bearing, and the area contains the greatest concentration of wood ducks in the Lower Mainland.

The Rotary Boardwalk was officially opened on March 23rd, 2005 and we are now actively fundraising to rebuild the viewing tower at Piper Spit
